About Mike Porter-Ward
Mike
Porter-Ward has been a professional bass player for many years
and plays both the double bass and the bass guitar. He has been
involved in many genres of music and has worked with many bands,
from light orchestras to heavy rock and ranging from duos, trios,
quartets, 6 piece jazz bands to big bands.
His forte and passion is jazz and has played with some wonderful
musicians, including: Harry Connick Jnr, Scott Hamilton, Bobby
Scott, Jim Mullen and Acker Bilk to name but a few.
He started playing double bass in Her Majesty’s Forces and went
on to study with the Principal Bassist of the Midland Light Orchestra.
Afterwards he went to London to study with the Principal Bassist
of the Philharmonic at the Guildhall School of Music.
In London he has played in many West End shows including:"Godspell",
"Canterbury Tales" and "Hans Christian Anderson".
He has also toured both in the UK and abroad with artists like
P J Proby, Tommy Steele, Anita Harris, Sandy Shaw and Harry Secombe.
As stated earlier, Mike's real love is jazz and this has led him
to play in many clubs in London including the world reknowned
Ronnie Scotts and others such as: Pizza on the Park, 121 Club,
Mandrake Club etc. His discography is large and features many
recordings with many great musicians such as: Bobby Scott (A Taste
of Honey), David Essex, Tommy Steele and Marti Webb.
Mike has played all over the world and has worked in many wonderful
venues. The Olympic Stadium Athens has probably been one of the
grandest but he has also appeared at Windsor Castle, the Ruinart
Champagne cellars in Rheims, Cork Jazz Festival, Isle of Man Jazz
Festival and has worked on the P & O Ships.
The
Music Mike's Trio plays
Mike is principally a jazz bass player but has had much experience
playing many other genres of music. The Mike-Porter Ward Trio
play a style of jazz which is accessible and easy to listen to.
The trio consists of Mike on bass, Eugene Portman on piano and
Dave Trigwell on drums.

Mike plays all over the UK but most of his work with his jazz
band is in Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire,
Berkshire, Essex, Kent, Suffolk and London.
